near Desert Center
I have a funny little relationship with this place. I just love the name of it. very appropriate. my car died some years ago there and i had to hitchhike the rest of the way to feenix. that was a story in itself maybe i told it before somewhere here. the skewlbus of hippies i got a ride with were packing machetes and guns (machete used to cut watermelon at a rest stop). we got stopped by the police and they gave open disclosure about the guns but apparently they had some sort of thing on their record so we all ended up in the freeking pokey. they let me out in the morning, but then the whole week or watever i couldn't get my suitcase because it was in the dang bus. i got it on the way back to LA freeking bruce out making him late for werk that day and some number of weeks later i greyhounded back to desert center and was funny.. this old bird helped me out, he figgerd out that what had happened was that my AC unit had seized up in the heat. all he had to do was pull out a pocket knife and cut a rubber belt connecting the AC unit to the engine to allow her to turn over agin. no AC but i had a ride home.
sheesh. {:)

anyway.. these circles of palm trees always facinated me since then and even before. now i just have that story to go with the place. they used to have a giant star with xmas lights.. maybe they just do that for the xmas season.
